Overview
The 2 Days Tour from Agadir to Marrakech is the ideal way to transition from Agadir’s Atlantic coast to Marrakech’s red medina — not by racing up the motorway, but by taking the spectacular inland route through one of Morocco’s most rewarding landscapes. This journey covers the ancient walled city of Taroudant, the wild Anti-Atlas foothills, and the dramatic Tizi n’Test mountain pass — a route so beautiful that it has been called Morocco’s most scenic drive.
Agadir, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake that destroyed the original city, is Morocco’s premier beach resort — but it is also the gateway to a vast and underexplored southern hinterland. The Souss Valley that stretches east from Agadir is a landscape of argan forests, saffron farms, and Berber market towns that feel far removed from the tourist trail. Your first stop, Taroudant, is the most important of these — a magnificently preserved walled city often described as a smaller, quieter version of Marrakech, with fine kasbahs, a working tannery, and souks full of silver jewellery and leather craft.
The drive from Taroudant to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Test pass is a journey into dramatic mountain scenery. The road climbs steeply through the High Atlas, past Berber hamlets built into cliff faces, through forest and rockfall, until it crests the pass at 2,092 metres with panoramic views in every direction. The descent toward Marrakech is equally breathtaking — the mountain gives way to the vast Haouz plain and the first glimpse of Marrakech’s famous red walls appearing on the horizon.
You’ll spend the night in Taroudant, dining in the souk district and experiencing life in a city that most Morocco visitors never discover — a genuinely local Moroccan city with its own character, cuisine, and pride. Overnight in a beautifully restored riad within the city walls gives you the morning free to explore the souks before setting off through the mountains.
Arriving in Marrakech on the afternoon of Day 2, you’ll have the city at your feet — the journey from Agadir will have given you a taste of Morocco’s rich interior and prepared you perfectly for whatever adventure in the Red City awaits.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Agadir to Taroudant
Depart Agadir and head east through the Souss Valley plain, passing through argan tree forests — home to the famous tree-climbing goats — and small Berber market towns. Arrive in Taroudant and spend the afternoon exploring this extraordinary walled city with your guide. Visit the main souk areas — the Arab souk and the Berber souk — where silver jewellery, saffron, and traditional leatherwork are sold alongside everyday goods for the local community. See the Saadian kasbah ruins and the centuries-old tanneries still in operation near the city walls. Dinner and overnight in a traditional riad within the medina — Taroudant’s smaller scale makes it a genuinely relaxing and unhurried experience compared to Marrakech.
Day 2: Taroudant to Marrakech via Tizi n’Test
After a leisurely breakfast and a final stroll through the souks, depart Taroudant and begin the mountain crossing. The road climbs through the valley of the Oued Nfis before attacking the dramatic switchbacks of the Tizi n’Test pass. Stop at the summit for photographs and mint tea at a mountain café with a view that stretches south toward the Anti-Atlas and north toward the Marrakech plain. Descend through the cedar forests and ocher valleys on the northern face of the Atlas, passing through the village of Ouirgane — a popular weekend retreat for Marrakechis — before the final run across the plain to the city. Arrive in Marrakech mid-afternoon.

Travel Tips
The Tizi n’Test road is a mountain pass and involves winding roads — passengers prone to motion sickness should take precautions. The pass can close in severe winter snow (January–February) in which case an alternative route is taken. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for this tour. Taroudant’s weekly souk (Thursday and Sunday) is particularly lively if your dates align.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can this tour be done in reverse — Marrakech to Agadir? A: Absolutely — this tour works equally well in both directions. Many travellers fly into Marrakech, tour inland, and fly home from Agadir.
Q: Is there a faster route between Agadir and Marrakech? A: Yes — the N8 motorway takes about 2.5 hours. But this tour takes the spectacular Tizi n’Test scenic route, which takes around 5–6 hours and is infinitely more rewarding.
Q: What is Taroudant like compared to Marrakech? A: Taroudant has a similar layout to Marrakech — walled medina, kasbahs, souks — but at roughly one-tenth the size and without the tourist pressure. Many travellers find it more authentic and enjoyable as a result.
