The 3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Agadir via the Atlantic Coast is the journey that most travellers between these two cities never take — instead of the fast inland motorway, this route heads west to the ocean, follows the Atlantic coastline south, and arrives in Agadir having passed through some of Morocco’s most beautiful and undervisited coastal and rural landscapes.
The journey begins with the drive from Marrakech to Essaouira — Morocco’s great Atlantic port city, a UNESCO-listed medina of blue-painted walls and white-washed streets built by Sultan Mohammed III in the eighteenth century. The argan forest between Marrakech and Essaouira is the first highlight — this is the only place on earth where wild argan trees grow, and the cooperatives here sell the finest argan oil in Morocco. A morning in Essaouira, with its sea ramparts, fishing harbour, fresh seafood lunch, and thuya wood craftsmen, is one of the most enjoyable half-days in the country.
Continuing south from Essaouira, the coastal road follows the Atlantic through small Berber fishing villages, wild beaches, and the dramatic landscape of the Souss-Massa region — a national park and wetland that is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Africa. The road passes through Cap Sim, the village of Sidi Kaouki (beloved by kitesurfers), and the dramatic headlands of the southern Essaouira coast before turning inland through the argan forest toward Agadir.
The Souss Valley surrounding Agadir is one of Morocco’s great agricultural zones — a vast plain of orange groves, tomato fields, banana plantations, and argan forest stretching from the Anti-Atlas to the sea. A visit to Taroudant, the walled market town 80 kilometres east of Agadir, is one of Morocco’s most rewarding cultural stops: an authentic Moroccan city with minimal tourism, superb souks, and a character entirely its own.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech to Essaouira via Argan Forest
Depart Marrakech and drive west through the argan forest. Stop at a women’s argan cooperative for a demonstration of traditional oil production — taste the remarkable amlou paste and purchase directly from the producers. Continue to Essaouira. Your guide leads a 2-hour walking tour: the sea ramparts with their Portuguese cannons, the medina’s main arteries, the thuya woodworkers’ souk, and the busy fishing port. Lunch at a harbour fish restaurant — point at your fish and it is grilled to order. Free afternoon in Essaouira. Overnight in a medina riad.
Day 2: Essaouira to Taroudant via Coastal Road
Depart Essaouira and follow the coastal road south — a dramatic drive past wild Atlantic beaches, coastal cliffs, and the argan-covered hillsides of the Souss region. Pass through the small town of Sidi Kaouki (Morocco’s kitesurfing capital) and the Souss-Massa National Park. Continue inland through the Souss Valley toward Taroudant. Arrive in the afternoon and explore this remarkable walled city — the Arab souk and Berber souk, the active tannery, the silver jewellery souk, and the Saadian kasbah ruins. Overnight in a riad within Taroudant’s ancient walls.
Day 3: Taroudant to Agadir
Morning at leisure in Taroudant — browse the souks, visit the weekly market (if Tuesday or Sunday), or walk the full circuit of the ancient city walls. After a late breakfast, drive to Agadir (80 kilometres, 1 hour). Arrive in time for an afternoon at the beach or to check into your hotel.

Taroudant’s Thursday and Sunday souks are especially lively if your dates align. The coastal road south of Essaouira is one of Morocco’s most scenic drives and has very little traffic — ask your driver to stop at any beach or viewpoint that catches your eye.
