Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech to Ouarzazate via Ait Benhaddou
Depart Marrakech early. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka (2,260m) with a summit stop. Visit Ait Benhaddou — 90 minutes exploring the UNESCO ksar on foot with your guide. Continue to Ouarzazate for lunch. Afternoon: Atlas Film Studios guided tour and Taourirt Kasbah visit. Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 2: Ouarzazate to Merzouga via Todra Gorge
Depart Ouarzazate and drive east through the Skoura palm oasis and the Valley of the Roses. Detour north into Todra Gorge for a 30-minute walk through the 300-metre canyon walls — one of the most dramatic landscapes in Morocco. Continue east through the Tafilalet region to Merzouga. Arrive in the late afternoon. Camel ride at sunset into Erg Chebbi. Overnight in a luxury Berber desert camp — dinner, music, and the finest night sky in Morocco.
Day 3: Merzouga to Midelt via Ziz Valley
Morning sunrise from the dune crest. Breakfast at camp. Drive north through Rissani — the ancestral home of the Alaouite royal dynasty — and into the spectacular Ziz Gorge, where the road cuts through a narrow canyon before opening into the vast Ziz Valley palm oasis, 60 kilometres of unbroken date palms stretching northward. Continue to Midelt, the apple capital of Morocco, set on the plateau between the High and Middle Atlas ranges. Overnight in Midelt.
Day 4: Midelt to Fes via Cedar Forest
Drive north through the Middle Atlas. Stop at Azrou in the cedar forest — look for the Barbary macaques (Berber monkeys) that live in the trees along the roadside. Continue through Ifrane, Morocco’s alpine resort town with its Swiss-chalet architecture and famous stone lion sculpture. Arrive in Fes in the early afternoon. First walk in the medina at your leisure — you’ve earned it.
